NAAD22 - Fire Damper Legislation
The National Association of Air Duct Specialists UK (NAADUK) launched NAAD22 on the 5th of October 2023. This document gives guidance on the appropriate design, selection, installation, testing & commissioning, maintenance and inspection of fire dampers.

NAADUK were the headline sponsor of the HVR Awards 2023 (where we won Indoor Air Quality Initiative of the Year for our MaintainAway solution, might we add) with the intention of showcasing their drive to continue to support the ventilation industry as the largest ventilation hygiene association in the UK. NAAD22 was launched at the awards ceremony alongside their new fire damper inspection software.
The new guidance is split into 3 sections:
- Part 1: Routine Maintenance, Testing & Inspection
- Part 2: Installation, Testing & Commissioning
- Part3: Design for and Selection of Fire Dampers
The guidance has been in development for sometime, and has been in review since winter 2022.
NAAD22 and DW145 Update (2026)
Since NAAD22 launched, BESA has published its own updated DW145 in November 2024 — meaning the industry now has two complementary guidance documents covering fire damper installation and inspection. Rather than conflicting, the two sit alongside each other: DW145 carries statutory weight under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and addresses the Building Safety Act 2022 requirements, while NAAD22 provides practical operational guidance for technicians on the ground.
