CPD1: Operating ventilation systems for optimal IAQ

Air Quality Determined Ventilation (AQDV):
Outdoor air cannot always be called "fresh air". Changes to Approved Document F of the building regulations bring the opportunity to reduce outdoor air intake when outdoor air pollution levels are high.

Timeclock vs DCV vs AQCV vs AQDV
Different ventilation strategies have pros and cons

Additional hardware required for AQDV
AQDV relies on data for OAQ and IAQ, and additional flow control components are needed.

CPD2: AHU design for maximum in-use performance

Air Quality Determined Ventilation (AQDV):
Ourdoor air cannot always be called "fresh air". Changes to Approved Document F of the builfing regulations bring the opportunity to reduce outdoor air intake when outdoor air pollution levels are high.

Optimise energy consumption:
Sticking with the filters provided by AHU manufacturers & maintenance contractors is seldom energy efficient. G4 pre-filters and F7 final filters typically selected with most AHUs use more energy than necessary.

Reduce waste:
Typically, pre-filters are changed every 3 months whether they need to be or not. Filters are typically chosen on cost rather than lifespan. MaintainAway models filter selection using outdoor air quality data, to minimise your filter changes.

CPD3: Air cleaning as an alternative to high ventilation rates

ASHRAE 62.1 Procedure
Air cleaning as an alternative to high ventilation rates has been popular for decades in the USA. We will explore why it is popular

Pollutants specified in Approved Document F
ADF lists a range of pollutants that need to be kept out of buildings. We will explore sources of these pollutants and asses the risk they pose.

Air cleaning technology overview
Various types of air cleaners are effective on different pollutants.
We will give an overview of ISO 16890, ISO 10121 and Eurovent 4/23 as well as reviewing the efficacy of electronic air cleaners.
